ARTIST STATEMENT
The focus of this project was to create a body of work that focuses on storytelling and grounding each product in a “real” setting. There was an emphasis on making sure each product felt like it belonged in that space. The goal beyond making the product stand out, was to create an image that invited people in. Showcasing a product goes beyond the polished out-of-the-box clean look it starts as. It's listening to music with friends until 2 am with your favorite bottle of wine, the boots you can't wait to show off on vacation, the drinks and food you share with friends on sunny days.Regardless of how big or small the set was, the priority was always to make the subject tell a story.
The approach for each session was to select a product, create a story, build a moodboard with colors, inspiration images and sometimes drawing of the setup and prop list for the session and photograph it. This allowed me to maintain a consistent rhythm of three to four photography sessions a week throughout February, March and the beginning of April. This allowed me to focus most of April on printing, sequencing and retouching to have everything ready by May 1.
